| | | Re: How do I get pics smaller for archive? A lot of people seem to find this difficult but it is quite easy once you understand the basics. Exactly how you go about things will depend on your photo editing software. Basically there are two reasons why your image may be rejected. It could be that the overall image size is too big or more likely the file size is too high.
What I do is: Resize the image to 1024 pixels wide by 96 pixels per inch resolution then save it as an 80% JPG image. This should produce no problems. Some people use slightly different settings but they are all similar. Don't get confused about the term pixels, it is just computerese language for a system of measurement.
You should see something in your software about Image size. That is the starting point. Try to switch the viewing sizes from inches/cms to pixels. Then find the resolution setting and reset that to 96 (some people prefer 72). If you can't work in pixels then 1024 divided by 96 equals 10.67 inches. So set your image size to 10 ins. wide by 96 ppi resolution.
Then save the image as a JPG (JPEG etc) and set the quality control slightly less than maximum. If it gives you a percentage, try 80%.
You should now have an acceptable image. There are more complicated versions for giving slightly better quality; but don't worry about that now.
Go to the Archive Upload section and carefully read the instructions. Send the photos to an appropriate section of the Archive Gallery for later use.
If you find problems with this part come back and ask for more help. |

| | | Re: How do I get pics smaller for archive? I use a free package called 'Ultimate paint' and simply re-size my pictures to say 25% of the original. This gives a reasonable size of picture for uploading without fiddling around with resolution etc... |
