Posting to gallery problems

Hi everyone
I have been having problems posting photos to the gallery, I have checked the correct settings and names etc but only managed to post one photo so far (lucky day I guess)
Has anybody having the same problems?
seem to wait for ages and then website dissapears.

If they're taking ages maybe you have them too large ? think 800x600 is correct spec, not sure but check in the upload information.

Hi I am still trying to upload photos
I have sent large and small photos all within the guidlines but still no joy?
Have any one else had the same problems?

Does the system go through the uploading process correctly, or does it hang part way through? From your comment about waiting for ages, I'd guess the latter.
This kind of problem is usually down to settings on your computer, maybe your firewall is blocking the files from going out?

Still I am having problems uploading photos to the gallery, I have made the file size and image size much smaller well within the guidlines and also turned off the firewall as well.
The files start to go, I get five bars on the task bar at the bottom but then it hangs followed by time out.
Can anyone give me any more advice please, any techies on the web site?

I tried posting one at a time too, I think the wab server is having a offday what do you think?

Same with me recently too - have you tried using firefox?
I'll do that now and see if it's an IE issue or if it fails with both.

Right - ok:

Internet explorer 7 will not let me upload any images to the gallery - but firefox will.
Are you using internet explorer?
If so , you may need to look at the options or any add ons for errors - php is used for the upload and maybe the options aren't configured correctly - or you might have an add on which conflicts with the php upload script

Firstly you are the first person to forward any possitive technical help for which I am very gratful.
I am using explorer 7, but the problem is I'm not sure where or what I am so supposed to look for any hints would be realy helpful? or shall I just change to firfox?

Hi Rich,

it seems quite a few people are having this issue - me included so it may be a problem with internet explorer (even though it worked perfectly fine for me up until recently).
I suggest you install firefox (it doesn't have to be your default browser - you can set it so it isn't). I have both internet explorer 7 and firefox installed on my computer and internet explorer is my default - I use firefox when IE7 isn't working but am considering using it more often as it's faster and hasn't crashed once for me!

If you download firefox, try uploading you pictures to the gallery and see what happens!

Thanks for the firfox, but alas still no joy.
I was ok a few day ago but after that the odd photo went and now nothing at all.
I dont now why but I feel It might be the wab server? any way I will keep trying maybe I will get lucky

I can't see how it can be the server, we're getting uploads coming in all the time.

I'll contact you by PM with an idea that might be worth trying.

There is a common problem with "windows defender" the default anti virus/spyware thing that uploads as an update to both xp and vista. For some reason this has a serious aversion to uploading anything to any php powered site with google ads and causes the hangs described. Assuming you have bespoke antivirus, spyware, etc running i strongly suggest that you find windows defender and turn it off (NB: dont delete it as windows will just install another one when it loads upgrades- leave it installed but disabled)

As defender is running on your computer it will cause problems regardless of what browser you use - though the problems seem more pronounced with IE.

this may not be the cause of your problem windy but it is worth elimininating and disabling defender will also speed up the rate of page load etc so its a good thing to do anyway.

Than you for your message, I actually do not have windows defender installed and I am running windows xp.
I have tried using firfox and IE but still no joy although the other day one photo uploaded and now nothing again, weired I know I cant explain it myself.

I will keep trying I will let you know what happens

Rich - just another thought:

Do you have any anti spyware (except defender) such as spybot search and destroy or similar - as some of these programs have interent ad ons which monitor for pop ups (spybot does) and may cause functions on some sites to not work properly.

To narrow it down:

There could be a problem with this site - although that's not the case as other people can still upload.

There could be a problem with IE - although firefox doesn't work either

There could be a problem with the php script on this site - but there can't be as other people can still upload.

I am just thinking the problem must lie somewhere with your computer and it's settings.
Have you tried Advanced windows care? It's free (for the personal edition) and is very good - it has a regisrty cleaner and might come across a setting which is causing this fault (maybe!)

Run it and see what it picks up - then restart your computer and have another go at uploading and see what happens!

I am having said problem. I have Spy Bot. I am getting annoying Pop Ups. I have informed a Member of Staff but have had no joy (as yet!).

Thanks for your help, I have downloaded advanced windowscare personal and used it to fix various errors but unfortunatly it hasen't sorted out the upload to gallery problem but I must say its a good program and I have decided to keep it.

And as many of you will know I too have been having this same problem uploading since last September when I first went onto broadband.

No-one has come up with a definite answer yet and I still have images that won't download no matter what I do at them (and that's when I lose it absolutely and ask my mate Graham to upload for me!)

It has got better tho over the months and I sort of know these days when it will and when it won't upload - I sot of sneak up on it at odd hours when I think no-one else will be uploading and therefore if its going to do it - it does it almost immediately and I don't suffer a timeout.

After reading this thread I am downloading Firefox but whether I actually feel like muddying the waters further and installing it is another matter. I've got to the stage where if its working mostly then I'm not willing to put myself thro the agony of looking for something that I don't where it is - or understanding what has happened when I've mucked it up and nothing is working at all - thats the sort of stress I can do without!

But I'm still lurking on this thread and waiting for someone to come up with the ultimate Eureka moment and define this problem once and for all. I still think its something to do with the settings of this site as well as my machine - as I can upload to my hearts content on BG - just like I used to be able to here........... I'm watching this space

I have been trying to upload for some time know and graham has had look at my photos to see if there was something wrong with the size.
He found two of my pics were 1pxl under size but one was correct even the description was ok but even he was baffled as to why I can not upload.

I agree with you I also do feel its something wrong with this site, I also have tried using firfox and still no joy
I have on the very odd occasion have managed to upload a photo but feel letdown because I have so much more to share with other members.
You mentioned you can upload to BG, it that another wildlife site? if so I would be most interested

I felt very depressed with it at first - now I've got used to it - I recommend you stick with us at WAB - life is much much better with than without I have found There are other sites but none like this one - non as friendly or helpful (tho eventually if you hold certain views you will most likely rub someone up the wrong way - I just unsubscribe to a thread if I find it too annoying or upsetting!!) and carry on blissfully in my own sweet way

BG is Bird Guides - which is a good site for bird pics and info - but your pics need to be good to go on it and poss there isn't the same chat or sharing as here - but I'm willing to be corrected on that! It may just be that I cannot find the time to devote to two sites...........

Thank you for your message, I agree with your comments and I will stick with WAB I actually prefer this site despite the upload problems.
I will try to sort this upload problem out but its the not knowing who is at fault me or the server or both.
I do enjoy looking at the amazing photos from members such as yourself it give me the inspiration to try and take better photos.
