| | | Uploading Images - or not! Really struggling yesterday without success and after reading the other threads it could be the photo image software I am using, so will try something else. However, today I thought I would try again, and where the first box is "upload file from your computer" , there is no browse tab to locate the file. It was there yesterday even though I was not able to upload the images. Any ideas?

Don't give up entirely though - most of us have had problems with this but we get there in the end! Quote:

Mark H | I did have a read through that yesterday, I know my file size was ok and they were jpg files but interestingly I also post on another wildlife forum and I can't upload jpg images there either (although it will accepet a .gif file), so it has got to be the photo image software - well I think! Really stuck on what to do next , think I might wait for the other half to return this weekend - give him something to do!

Mark H | I use Zoombrowser to upload images from the camera, but there is something else on the computer Photo Impact which seems to take over. Have loaded this Panasonic Lumix Viewer on tonight, opened a pic which was uploaded with Zoom Browser, and the details of the file say Photo Impact Ulead or something!Weird.

New technology is far too complicated for me, thanks for the replies | Let me know Shirl if the other half solves the problem - I've been unable to upload for a couple of months now (I've emailed them to helpful mods and they can upload) but from here my machine is having none of it. Mine is also something to do with image software - Paint Shop Pro resizing seems to be at the bottom of the prob - but it was never a prob when I had dial up - its only come to light with a new computer set up and broadband. Folks have thought and made all sorts of suggestions and all to no avail.... I've given up for the time being cos I just don;t have the time to keep trying ........

Shirl | Thanks Shirl - actually I've given up on the idea of finding out what is wrong with PSP and Adobe and decided that if I can find another programme to resize in and upload from - I shall do that! Its a pain having to find a way round the problem instead of solving it - but no-one seems to have the answer and some fine IT brains have thought about it and come up nil....
I'm itching at the mo to upload - got some cracking pics from the Lakes during my 4 day break and can't wait to show them!
Heh! Heh! Just think of the uploading and backlog jam thats going to happen once the gallery is back on its feet - are you ready mods! To be serious if I was a mod I'd be having nightmares now thinking of how much stuff is going to come flooding in - may I suggest everyone is only allowed to upload one or poss two pics a day for the first 7 days of normality........ just a thought guys to get us over the restart and let you folk get some sleep!

| | | Re: Uploading Images - or not! I know I may be treading on toes by making a recommendation away from WaB, but if you're really struggling I can only see that I'm helping ... Try uploading your photos to ImageShack® - Hosting ... there is a drop-down box with a heap of resizing options on there.
Once uploaded, you only have to cut & paste the URL that appears, into your address bar, then right-click and save the resulting resized picture back to your PC, ready to upload to here.
It's a bit convoluted just for resizing, but if it works as a short-term fix at least we've got you out of the mire.

| | | Re: Uploading Images - or not! Thanks Naz and Linda for these suggestions - will give them a try once the gallery is open for posting again - at the minute I am 'mired' cos the gallery is down - but as someone already said - patience and virtue and all that! I keep grinning - thinking about how many folks during the day (and night!) keep trying that upload tab.....
Thanks again guys

thanks for the help naz but unfortunately its against the wab rules to load images from external sites - this is because in the past there have been a lot of problems with broken links and also with links changing later to link to inappropriate content.
the only thing to do is like graham said wait patiently for admin to sort out the gremlins - we can use the time to hone our choice of images to the very best

| | | Re: Uploading Images - or not! okay - fair point. tho that seems a complex way of resizing images compared with say downloading freeware such as irfanview, picasa, or gimp. (of these picasa is arguably the simplest to use)

I also think it's a shame that we don't have a Paint Shop Pro user on here that is able to help Pauline out before she installs even more software (which probably won't be as good as a correctly functioning Paint Shop Pro) on her computer. |

Correctly titled means a title in the form of ' Common Name - Scientific name' with both common and scientific names then included in the keywords. Scientific names can be found by doing a gallery search.
Given the vast volume up uploads that we face, I'm afraid images will be rejected if they are not correctly titled.

| | | Re: Uploading Images - or not! I just uploaded a fungi pic that I had waiting, 800x600, under 500kb ... I noted that the filesize on the upload screen now states Maximum File Size: No file size limit. ... but looking at the guidelines since, I see that you're recommending '250k or less'.
Can you confirm this for me ... thanks.
