Re: Site slow.....again.....

The server is showing very high loads, but nothing that would suggest it's being caused by the site. I've sent the info to the web host to take a look at.

It's probably a blip that will only last a few minutes, but I'd love to know what causes them

Would big hits on the gallery do it?

Re: Site slow.....again.....

Yep, it would do, but in every case so far our monitoring info has shown that we're not causing the load spikes...it's due to other sites on our web host's server. They've just told me that the problem today was caused by a DDOS on another site, but they used the same excuse yesterday and said that they'd moved that site off our server.

Personally, I think that they've got something wrong with the set up of their webhosting environment.

The site is usually ok for me these days, but is slower, compared to other forums. I do sometimes get timed out when replying to a post and when I refresh to try again, I find that my reply got posted first time and by refreshing I am trying to post twice. Does this make sence...................Jon

Yes it does. Happened to me last night. Mostly I don't have a problem, it's just these past few days where I've had spasmodic periods of very slow posting, which will then clear and be OK for a bit, to be followed by another problem period. There doesn't seem to be any sense or reason for it.

Re: Slow Response Times

Often these problems created by other sites can be due to backups of the databases, bugs in their code, etc. and are usually related to the database server getting bogged down. A couple of years back there was a period of a week or so where my own host (gradwell.com) had a customer testing some new code that was full of bugs that created chaos with the sql server.

A dedicated host would solve it but comes with a hefty pricetag

I don’t know if the problem I have is due to the server or not. Last Wednesday I uploaded a photo of a Mute Swan. I got the normal message that it was waiting for a Moderator to check it, it never appeared. Today I uploaded the same photo and one other of a Dunnock, the Dunnock is on the site but not the Swan. I intend to attach the Swan photo with this post to check the file.

Hi
I now know the reason for the missing Swan. Not the server at all just me, sorry.

Re: Slow Response Times

We're currently going through yet another high spike on the loads and it's nothing to do with our VPS. I've send the info to the hosts and will wait for their latest excuse
