Problem Uploading Images

Oh desperation and depression . . . now that I am ready to upload pics from my Cornwall hols and the WAB dragonfly meet I find I cant - at first I thought it was just busy - manky sunday weather and everyone uploading join the queue thing - but I've tried going on a dozen times now (and I've never had that amount of bother previously). I've turned my pop-up blocker off altogether - tho it is set to accept from WAB - and private messages have come thro since I returned online with new computer and brandnew broadband instead of dial up. . . I've tried uploading only one pic instead of the 10 I had prepared - I've checked they are in the right size range etc and - well I'm stumped now . . .

Think I need help Stu - don't know what else I can do if anything

Pauline

PS I recopied the web address from a current message just in case - tho if I can connect to the site it must be working - but I've done everything I can think of - now its in the hands of the gods - Stu!!

Re: Site Problems?

I'm hoping to run an upgrade on the gallery later on today, so I'll take a look after that's been sorted. In the meantime, could you try uploading one of the sample images that comes with your PC in the 'my documents > my pictures' folder...something like the blue hills, sunset pic.

Thanks Stu - as it says on my avatar pick - it came thro and appeared in seconds - so tried again with what I really want to upload and its having none of it - must be something to do with my new set up here don't you think?

Re: Site Problems?

yep, we've had it before and I wonder if it's something to do with the way your software is saving the image as a jpeg. Which app are you using to edit and save? You could even try to open one of the sample images, edit it in your app, then save and upload to see if that changes anything. Might be a conflict between our gallery and your app, but not sure what it would be at the moment

Right I'm a bit lost with that at the moment - fortunately a friend of a friend coming round tonight to set up husbands machine to mine and broadband - he may have an idea but I will try one or two things and see what happens before then. Bloomin' machine - just when you think you're cooking with gas the tricky little git throws yet another wobbly

Re: Site Problems?

Well you're right Stu - it uploaded the unchanged avatar from the old storage but moving a pic from the old storage into my WAB file, editing it etc and it won't upload. So there's something with the way mine is set up that stops it from gelling with WAB?

Re: Problem Uploading Images

I'm using Paint Shop Pro 7 same as always - I like it - I know how to use it But when I came to download my latest pics from camera to my computer they used to come thro FotoStation and now they won't so I downloaded to a file in my computer direct. The FotoStation keeps telling me the directory isn't loaded . . . doesn't mean much to me

Question Still Problems Uploading . . .

Forgive me for starting a new thread but I would like as much help as anyone can offer. I've spoken to my dealer today and sorted out my virus checker which had run out of registration. Everything on my machine is - as far as anyone can tell in working order and of course brand spanking new.

The problem appears to be in Paint Shop Pro. I can upload myself (the avatar) from old storage on my machine (stuff backed up and kept in a file) it came thro in the blink of an eye. Any and all of my latest pics taken on hol last week and now trying to upload simply wont' - I get timed-out. It looks as tho the act of using PSP stops them somehow from being uploaded. I don't understand it - its the same PSP 7 as before - I like it - I don't want to upgrage to PSP8 or later unless I absolutely have to.

Anyone got any idea at all what about PSP may be stopping it from coming to WAB - anyone know of something that wants switching on or off - cos it all worked unfailingly when I had dial up . . . I give up I really do . . . but I thank Graham from the bottom of my heart for uploading a few for me - I'm not quite so red and apoplectic as before! LOL

Re: Problem Uploading Images

At a guess I'd say it's something to do with PSP's photo compression. I haven't used PSP for a while but I think I remeber something about it have a web optimiser setting? Try using that to create your JPEGs, or if you are using that already, try not using it. It'll be a bit of trial an error, but I wonder if it's the same app that others have been using when they've had problems uploading

Re: Problem Uploading Images

Also, you could try sending me one or two of your images after they've been editing by putting them in a zipped folder and sending them to email@wildabou....

I'll take a look at them and see if there's anything obvious and try to upload them from here

Thanks Stu - but Graham kindly already done that which is how 3 pics of mine have been downloaded recently and shows that the prob is my end (course it is - it always is!!!!) and nothing wrong with his computer or the website.

Now where would I look for these web setting thingies? What I don't understand is its the same programme loaded from the same disc as before which worked a treat - so it has to be somehting to do with the new tower, settings, broadband itself or all three?

Re: Problem Uploading Images

Does the program auto-update at all? It may be that when your old copy was installed, at some point it connected to the Internet and downloaded and installed some patches to fix any bugs it might have had. Your new installation might still be wiating to go through that process, but you might be able to do it manually if it has this features. Try the 'help' menu to see if there's an update link.

Could you also still send me a zipped folder of some edited images anyway to see if there's anything I can find.

Re: Problem Uploading Images

what operating system are you using ? I can upload fine from my mums xp operated laptop and from the XP machines at work but i had no end of trouble with my new vista laptop until i turned off all the add / pop up blockers in vista (which i dont need as i'm running norton 360 anyway) - there seems to be something in some types of vista that doesnt like sites with google ads

Thanks eeyore - wish it was that - I'm on xp professional and pop ups are turned off altogether at the min . . . thought it was going to be firewall but I've told it to accept paint shop pro (which wasn't on the list of acceptables) and really thought Graham had the answer there - but no its still having none. Its pretty obvious something is saying no somewhere - the queer thing is it will upload any of my old images (the one;s edited and created before the breakdown) but the new set of pics from the Cornwall hols two weeks ago will not upload from here - they will from Graham's machine and probably most other machines in the country - but not this one - sound familiar - cos I'm getting used to disobeying machines - there must be something about me that attracts them

I'm afraid I don't know how to get the images into a zipped folder - how would I create one? I've seen them arrive on here from other progs and downloads and un-zipped them but didn't know I could create one. I can send you pics as attachments to your email - but will hold back on that in case you're worried that something nasty might be coming with them somehow and that;s why you want them zipped? I'm right sorry I don't know how to do it - I'm no computer buff - I know how to look for certain things and I remember when I do find a fix but its stumbling with me, rather than computer literate!

I've now tried a proper copy (tho mine was a proper copy too as far as I know) of PSP 7 and 8 Adobe elements 3 and none of my recent pics will upload to this site from any of these. The old pics from before I had a new set up and broadband will - in split seconds - its so annoying I could bite chunks out of the table top

The friend of a friend is unavailable this week - so I'm stuck........

Am chucking the camera and other stuff in the car after work this aft and buzzing off to the caravan till sunday - hopefully now there has bben so much rain there might be some fungi to chase for two days and take my mind off this problem........

Ah well - I've got some cracking pics from Cornwall of dragonflies and such and I can't share them - ah well - (muted screaming and chomping noises...........) See you all on sunday - hope everyone has a good one and cameras busy.........

Just select the images on your PC, right-click and choose 'send to > compressed (zipped) folder'.

Re: Problem Uploading Images

I think really this need to be homed down to point at one thing.

I think you have said that your old pictures on the PC upload fine, which ergo should show that it is no an operating system or connection issue. Which then points at PSP or the images themselves.

To really identify PSP as the culprit you could do the following with some of your new images. I am presuming that your camera is saving in jpeg not a camera manufacturer format? If they are in another format you will need to convert them to jpeg first or you could set the camera to jpeg and take a couple of quick snaps to test the theory.

As you have XP pro you will have the 'Paint' programme installed as part of the OS acessories package.

Go to the 'Start Menu' > click on the 'All Programmes' arrow > click on 'Accessories' in the list menu and then select 'Paint' from the list.

Paint is the simplest prog in the world if you haven't used it before

Go to 'File' select 'Open' and browse to one of your new images and open it.

From the 'Image' menu select 'Attributes'. This will show the image height and width in pixels.

From the 'Image' menu select 'Streatch / Skew' and enter a percentage into the horizontal and vertical boxes to resize the image for the test. (If the Attributes showed 3000 x 2000 pixels then just do an aproximate percentage to get the size down to the WAB size). You can always re check the attributes after it has been resized and select 'Undo' from the 'Edit' menu if the image is to large or too small after resizing and then do it again with a different percentage.

Finally 'File' menu and 'save' or 'save as' to name the image and save in the new size etc and try uploading that.

If the image then uploads OK this would eliminate everything but PSP from the equasion and then at least it is easier to know where to look for answers.
