Re: Problem Uploading Images

A BIG THANKYOU TO GRAHAM FOR UPLOADING MY CORNWALL PICS

Hopefully eventually someone (whether its a friend of a friend) or a suggestion from a member here will trip across the reason for PSP and Adobe not wanting to play and allow my pics out to WAB. . . of all the things I expected when the machine broke down in July - I certainly didn't envisage still not being able to contribute by Oct . . . well at least the broadband is marvellous - but just think - when I had dial up it might have been slow but at least I could join in . . . ain't life wonderful

Pauline

PS Thanks again Graham xx

mine normally goes to "my documents" but if you cant find it that seems a bit obvious.

normally when you zip up you have the option of where to save the resultant folder - if you pick a memory stick with nothing else on you will be able to see for sure if it went there.

btw if all you want to do is resize images you could download a free copy of picasa from google and use that rather than experiencing more psp related trauma.

Thanks for that eeyore - I've spotted them in the menu stored right next door to the one that is in the zipped bag . . . dur um! Now all I have to do is figure out how to get them into a private message to send to to Stu . . .

Thanks for the picasa advice - but I do want to use PSP - I want to be able to do all the tweaking and editing I used to do before - so I will get to the bottom of it one way or another - unfortunately I have to wait for a friend of a friend at the min, then if he can't solve it - its back to the dealers for some more wrangling . . . At least Graham (my knight in shining) has uploaded some of my Cornwall pics and I can feel part of things again for a while!

Re: Problem Uploading Images

Just a thought, I had the same trouble a few days ago with my hoverfly pic it was coming up as an invalid file. I had uploaded other pics with no problems so I tried re-editing the original file and hey presto, success. Maybe my first one was over edited?
Best of luck.

you can't put attachments on a private message - send them to him by email sdh@ wildaboutbritain.co.uk ( take the space out which i put in to defeat spambots which sweep the web for email addresses)

if it came up as invalid file the chances are good it was saved as something other than a .jpeg - easily done in photoshop as the default format is .psd

Re: Problem Uploading Images

No, definately a jpeg. I was using FinePix software and the contrast and saturation were upped quite a bit.
Cheers.

Re: Problem Uploading Images

i dont know then - another one for t' mods - however i would have thought that if it was rejected for over saturation that would have been a human decision where as the invalid file suggests an auto rejection for a technical reason - what was the file size , pixel dimensions etc ?

Re: Problem Uploading Images

Original file size was 226kb 1003x755, the file that was accepted was 291kb 955x857. I'm not that computer literate so I don't know what pixel size means.

Thanks eeyore - I had lost his email address and felt I'd done enough mithering for one week - so thanks I will send a couple of the recent one's and an older one that went up with no trouble before I had a new set up and broadband. . .

Re: Problem Uploading Images

What I don't understand is that the images you sent me, all uploaded from here without me doing anything with them so there can't be anything wrong with the file format if I can upload them, direct from you.

It has to be something that's getting in the way of the files as it's leaving your computer, although why old files can get through and new one's can't is really confusing!

You;re telling me Its what's known as covered in confusion - or as me old dad used to quote . . . 'Confucious he say . . . ' the funny thing was we never did get to hear what he said cos dad never finished it - I'm sorry - I have to joke about it now - otherwise I would do the girly thing and burst into tears - or maybe the un-girly thing (?) take it all outside and kick it to smithereens . . . tempting - so tempting - if I had plenty money . . . I'd waste some this way just for the pleasure of it

Thumbs up Re: Problem Uploading Images

At last a breakthrough . . . I've just posted and its gone in a twinkling and Graham has simultaneously accepted it and pm'd - poor love - shock must have nearly done for him - its not done a lot for me either - I'm all over the place

What I have done is - reload Nikon View 5 version 5.1.3 which is what I have always used to download from my camera (I know I could use other stuff and raw but let me get to grips with this first!) the Nikon View brings up FotoStation which is a programme I'm used to and like. When the new set up came back this wasn't working - I won't ramble on about why it wasn't - so I got on the Nikon website found the update for the correct version and let it do that. Now its all working and pics have appeared the way they always used to.

So I've downloaded a card from the Cornwall hols - chosen a pic - done a very fast tweek in Paint Shop Pro and uploaded it. . .

I can't quite believe it and might have to do it again with something else before I actually believe I might be back with everyone again . . . But it would seem that the way I downloaded all my hol pics straight into a file has meant that the Wab comp couldn't access it - I've no idea and I don't intend to think too hard about it either cos I don't have enough background knowledge and usually when I have had a play/readjustment I need a system restore backwards to get everything to work again!!!!!

But basically thats it - at a guess - its where things are stored not the actual pic itself - as they would load from another computer.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THOUGHTS AND SUGGESTIONS AND HEY UP I'M BACK - yeah hah!:

And again thanks to Graham - relax - make yourself a strong coffee - chamomile tea whatever ................

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's all OK now.

Glad I managed to be a little help in your moment of madness!

Thanks wildone - its been a test of nerves - afraid I don't think there will be many more Cornwall pics to come as Graham very kindly accepted a raft of them via email and put them up for me, which helped a great deal with the feelings of utter frustration! At least now I feel I can go out and use the camera - if only I could find some fungi to photograph

Again Graham thankyou - it was so frustrating - until it happens and you're shut out of something you want to join in then I don't think it dawns just how upsetting it is!! Or am I just a sad git??!!

Thumbs down Re: Problem Uploading Images

Talk about one step forward and two back . . . you know what I'm going to say don't you? Yep - and its even more confusing today - couldn't sleep so got up at 4.30am and decided I would reload via FotoStation - have tweaked and got my presentation spot on and will it load 10 together - nah - don't be silly . . .

It will load some of them one at a time. . . and I'm begining to think that one of our programmes is really extracting the 'you know what' - cos there is no reasonable explanation for this - some will and some won't (and this batch have all been re-done at the same time this morning) - what sort of error is that - and where would any sane person start looking!

Well - my reaction is I'm throwing some stuff into the car and taking off to the caravan again to cool down

Anyone have any brainwaves? Answers on a postcard to a little caravan at Milnthorpe . . .

Re: Problem Uploading Images

Well I'm back - the weather was very kind while I licked my mental wounds at the caravan and I got busy with the camera - but still probs uploading. Some it will - but several at once (like it used to no probs) but now it won't do it. I was wondering if there is a timeout setting somewhere that needs increasing to give it time to upload a few. Its strange that one on its own will zip thro - but several and it just sort of gives up and then the 'this page cannot be displayed thingie appears' . . .

Answers on this forum please till Tues when I will be once again making a break for the caravan - tho I suspect the weather may break by then . . .
