Post Counts

We're currently going through the threads and posts to merge/remove some of the really short posts, spams, ads etc.

We've refreshed the database's post count and so each member is currently only showing the number of posts that they have in the forum, and not those posted in the gallery. Once we've finished, the post count for each member will go back up again, but obviously won't include any posts that have been removed.

Has this process finished? Just noticed I'm down to virtually no posts so does that mean everything I've said has been designated as spam?

I've noticed something worrying here, a certain StuartDH's count hasn't gone down at all! It's a conspiracy to get himself back on top!

Maybe its because he does not comment on gallery images?

It looks like replies to the images in the gallery are now being added to the totals again.

It looks like Nightshade is the top poster and contributer to WAB's forums

Well done.

Re: Post Counts

So does that mean all the comments I have made on peoples images have been erased? Feels like I wasted my time giving people feedback if thats the case. From the statement at the top though only some posts will be erased permanently so I don't want to jump to a hasty conclusion. Hence my original question at the top, which hasn't been answered yet.

Hi Rodosranger,

No it doesn't affect any of your posts, so you haven't wasted any time giving feedback etc. If you look in the gallery you should see that all your posts are still there. The counters had to be recalculated at the beginning of the week and that means that they reset to only include the forum's posts.

We've got the post counts from the gallery as well and they should hopefully get added back on tomorrow afternoon. Sorry, but we're working as fast as we can, 12:30am and there's 3 us still trying to get it cleaned up. To be honest, it's been a real nightmare having to clear up the spam that we've been getting over the past month or so.

Anyway, hopefully not too long to go

Stuart

Your comments are not wasted but very welcome by me at least, they give encouragement to people to go out and take a good photograph and that makes a good gallery.

Re: Post Counts

How about a moderator alert button on the top of the page so if it looks like spam we can get someone on it straight away, saves a lot of work later

Good idea! (adding a few extra words to make it not look like spam )

I could reply that you are only eager because that would give you a chance at a higher post count than the rest of us.

It doesn't look like many of you are aware of it but there is already a 'Report Bad Post' function on every post that's made in the forum. Try hovering your mouse pointer over the little red circle, bottom left of any post.

Stuart can set the resulting report so that it automatically emails all moderators and administrative staff (at the moment, it may just go to Stuart). Whoever is online and authorised can then make a decision on whether to deal with it immediately or to confer with other staff members about it before deciding whether to take any action.

Re: Post Counts

Reported posts can also be set so that they create a post in a private forum area that mods can see. Much easier than sending multiple emails.

I reported a spam post yesterday to Stuart, but by the time I looked back it was gone! Turns out glsammy beat Stuart to it. They're on the ball these mods you know!

That's sounds good to me. Far better than receiving dozens of emails. One place to look, and then respond.

That only works if someone is around moderating at the time.

It also helps to avoid more than one person trying to deal with the same issue.
