Forum Rollback

Following the problems over the weekend with the site being down from Friday 2pm until Sunday evening, we've just had to rollback the site to the latest backup before the crash (about 11pm Thursday).

After the crash it looked like we'd managed to repair the tables in the database and everything was OK again, but during the past 12 hours we've found that quite a few members had lost their association with posts, couldn't login, didn't have the right permissions etc. As a result, we've taken the option to rollback to Thurday night's backup, before any of the problems occured.

Hopefully this should sort out the problems, but it will also mean that the posts from Friday and last night aren't on the forum. We'll now try to recover those posts and put them back into the forum, but that might take some time.

Please check your latest gallery uploads to ensure that they're still on the site, (they probably won't be if you posted them since Thursday night). If they're not there, please could you upload them again.

We're really sorry for the inconvenience, but this should hopefully fix the issues that quite a few members were having with their accounts.

Thanks

Stuart

Where are the posts from yesterday.

Hi folks

I posted a very long thread yesterday and now it has disappeared. I spent a very long time constructing that piece of writing and if it has gone then I must admit to feeling a bit crushed by it all. I know Beryl did a reply to it but I have noticed that everything that appeared to have been posted yesterday has gone.

Is there any way of recovering it all.

John

Re: Where are the posts from yesterday.

Hi John I have had no WAB since Friday all that was shown was a page
about a database problem or the reply just did not work if I got the site
perhaps we are trying to do too much?

Re: Where are the posts from yesterday.

I'm afraid that such glitches to happen from time to time, and are generally out of StuDHs control, but he works hard to resolve them as soon as possible.

John, I appreciate what you say about your input being lost, but have you tried writing the piece first in a text document, saving it and then cut and paste it into your thread. This way you can save it, go in now and again and change things before posting.

Just a thought.

Oh no! I've got to re-live yesterday! It's not Groundhog day is it.
Does that mean poor old Fourwings has lost his New Commander of the Wild Empire status.. Hard luck Mate! But you've won a new title, the shortest lived Commander of the Wild Empire.

Not sure it's related, but a couple of shots I posted last night have entered the ether and gone.

Don't know whether Horse or Household Cavalry but I cannot find the member whose user name was Guardsman.

Hi Tinkerbell

I did do it in word first. In fact I have done even more in that document because that thread would have come in several parts. The thing is that because I had posted the first part I deleted that part from the Word document and just left the next part, which I would have posted either today or tomorrow.

Are you now confused.

To be honest I wouldn't have posted my comment if I had seen this thread in the first place. I had posted it into a seperate thread and it has now gone into this one. When I tried to go back and edit it I couldn't get back into WAB so it must have temporarily down again.

John

Re: Forum Rollback

We've just had another outage with the site going down for a couple of hours.

This time it was higher up than the usual problems that we get from our hosts, and hit most the GNAX network of 0000's of web sites

Thanks for that Stu

I had just put a thread in the Admin forum about that. Please ignore it.

The funny part about this was that I had jus looked at this thread and the last two posts were mine and nightshades. The next time I looked this post of yours appeared between us. How did that happen?

John

Re: Forum Rollback

We've just been down for another couple of hours, but this time it went a lot higher than the usual problems that we've been having with our hosts.

There was a big failure on the GNAX network that hit 0000's of websites , so our server was still up and running, but it couldn't be accessed through the network.

Re: Forum Rollback

Looks like the outage knocked the clocks back 3 hours so some posts have the wrong times on them. I wouldn't mind them moving the clocks forward, then this Monday would be nearer to being over

Re: have we lost some members?

There were probably 25 to 30 images posted Sunday evening after we came back on line. Have seen about 5 this morning re-posted but there are the others plus the normal workload. Heck!

I tend only to post a couple at a time, and will repost tonight. Stuart's doing a sterling job - but don't you just love technology

No worries Stu. As a vBulletin Admin myself I know these things happen.

If anyone gets too upset - I usually offer them a refund on their membership

I've just re-uploaded the photos I posted yesterday.
