Re: Delete Photos?

Hi James, I don't think you strictly need to resize photo's going from the unidentified gallery to go in to a post. I think its just for the other galleries there are min + max size requirement. I have forgotton myself on several occasions and it has never been a problem.

Re: Delete Photos?

Hi James. There's no need to re-size. The Unidientified and Forum Galleries are not restricted.

items can only be deleted by mods or edds - and generally they arent because no one wants to wind up with a whole load of posts with broken links or the dreaded little white box with red X

as has been said above, there is no facility to delete photos and it is not something we want to encourage because it can lead to broken links in threads. In certain circumstances you can report an image to a moderator by opening an image and then click 'image tools' in the top right hand corner. Then select 'report to moderator' and state what the problem is. But we will not delete images as a matter of routine, not least because we would spend all day doing it.

Basically, images uploaded to WAB should be considered to be permanent and if members are not happy about that then they shouldn't upload their images.

Matt

Re: Delete Photos?

Sorry if I appeared to ask a question to which a reply had already been given, I have not seen an answer. I have only been here a few days so maybe I missed it.

I asked about removing a photo from my gallery, I put it category unidentified and it is much to small to be viewed. It has not been linked to any post anywhere on the site .

I find it very unuasal to not be able to remove your photos from gallery.

Response from me to this........I would be quite happy to remove it myself, if the facility was there and I cant see that you would really spend all day removing photos. My experience of other sites shows me most folks do not upload and remove more often than they need to. On occassion if you have uploaded wrong size or duplicated the photo by mistake.

Quote "Basically, images uploaded to WAB should be considered to be permanent and if members are not happy about that then they shouldn't upload their images. "

Sounds extremely friendly NOT and maybe I will not upload any more if thats the attitude here.

Have a good day

Its about as freindly as the tone in which you asked your original question. If you read the terms and conditions you will see that the rules and reasons are clearly explained.

All our mods , edds, admin , and other background folk are volunteers who work extremly hard for the site - and there is no reason that they should have to waste their time removing photos "on demand".

matt has already explained the reasons why members cannot delete their own photos - notably that it leads to broken links. If you find that this unacceptable then dont upload in ther first place.. I am sure that with 10,000 plus members we will be able to stand the loss.

Sigh...every now and then we get one don't we..The terms and conditions are there for all to see, if you don't like them, don't load..Simple really. We've 36,000+ images, I'm sure we can manage without them.
Also perhaps not the best way to get the backs up of the moderators if you want something removed, I'm sure we'd treat any request you made carefully...

Re: Delete Photos?

I thought it a bit strange but accept and understand why. The images may be linked to threads (all are in my case) and the posts would be nonesense if read later but with no images.

Re: Delete Photos?

stirling ( the place I born) that cracked me up love it

eeyore, my orginal post was not meant to sound anything other than frustrated. My photos are stored on another site or on our main pc, I use my own pc. As you dont allow links to other sites I thought I had sorted out how to put my images up without kicking my husband off his pc. Unfortunately it only gave me thumbnails. I looked on this site for a way to delete the photo and did not see any instructions for it but found this thread. I did read and discount the 'report to moderators' bit as I tend to think that is for photos unsuitable for public viewing .... ie nasty/rude etc my mistak,e sorry. I understand the not wanting broken links on posts and thats way I put that I had not linked to a post.

aye maybe you have got here ! I dont remember reading anything about photos in the term and conditions, I am a bit of a speed reader at times and must have missed it. I was in ahurry to join in. I can say however if I had read that I should consider any upload of my photos as permanent then I know for sure I would thought more about joining and uploading photos. I like to have the say as to when I can remove photos from sites.

With so many members/photos I am sure you can do what you want and will continue to do so. I dont normally try to get folks back up nor was it my intention to do so.

It wasn't meant to sound unfriendly, and I did put a smiley at the end of it But, the bottom line is that if you don't like the terms and conditions, and we accept that not everyone will, then don't upload your photos.

But you shouldn't underestimate the workload that it would entail if mods had to delete images. We used to have LOTS of requests from certain individuals to 'delete this photo', or 'change this photo for a better one' etc. etc.

And we couldn't let members delete their own photos because of the broken threads issue.

Matt
