Question Images rejected

I'm not having much luck here - today I thought I'd have a go at uploading some images to the gallery, and I would like to point out that my images are generally regarded as good enough for publishing in magazines and newspapers and I have posted loads on websites, however, they have all been rejected.

I had submitted some photos of subjects I thought you'd appreciate including a Death Head's Hawk Moth and a Monarch butterfly and a Monarch chrysalis just about to emerge but they failed the criteria for inclusion here!

I added title, description and keywords but to no avail! Maybe I left out the scientific names but is that a reason they could have been failed?

I thought OK maybe too small - I normally don't go more than 500 px width for website convenience - so I posted a full size and that was no good because it was too big but at least with that one I know because I got a message saying so.

If someone could please tell me what I am doing wrong it would be a help. I have a large collection of photos that I am sure would be of use here but as I say so far I have had no luck posting!

Re: Images rejected

Where do you take these pix Bard? I have an idea you are based in Tenerife. In which case there is your answer. Perhaps our sister site Wild about the World would be the place for them.

If however I am wrong in this assumption (and I often am ) then I have no idea. There is a policy of not discussing the reason for rejecting photos publicly. I am not sure if PM is encouraged on the subject.

Yes, I am living in Tenerife but I have photos from the UK I took before I moved including Earth stras that grew in my garden in Ely, Cardiff and that was rejected. The Tenerife pics I submitted were of species that migrate to the UK - Monarchs and Death Head's Hawk moth but they didn't make the grade here either. Surely it doesn't matter where an animal or plant is actually located when it was captured on camera to be included if it is a species that can be found in Britain, as long as the background in the pic is clearly not the UK?
The Death Head Hawk, for example did not show any background suggesting it was at any specific location, so I don't see what the problem would be there! If the rule is that people not in the UK are not allowed to post then that would explain it but that wouldn't make much sense to me either, especially as many UK species of flora and fauna alos live in many other parts of the world!

Re: Images rejected

Information on our image requirements can be found here;

http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/gallery_information

Basically, all images have to be a minimum of 800 pixels wide and less than 500kb. They should also be titled in the form Common Name - Scientific name and both of these names should be included in the keywords. The upload screen clearly states all of these requirements.

Images have to be of species that could be found in the UK. Ideally, they would have also been taken in the UK although we don't strictly enforce the latter, particularly if the species is rare and not well represented in the gallery.

Images also have to meet a minimum quality level and will, I'm afraid, be rejected if they do not. This probably wasn't the reason yours were rejected, I suspect yours were too small from what you've said.

I should also point out that we ask individuals not to start threads asking why images were rejected. The editors' decisions have to be final and threads discussing the merits of individual images usually become heated in no time at all.

Thank you, Matt, I can see from your response why they were rejected probably, and will make some alterations and try again at some stage. I had thought the 2 species of butterfly and moth I mentioned would make great additions to your collection and they are both included in a book or site about British lepidoptera.

Re: Images rejected

bardofely, may I suggest that you and any other member having trouble uploading images, takes time to read the *Add Gallery Images
link to be found at the top right hand side of the forums opening page. That will explain the criteria for uploading images and should answer all your queries.
