its a useful feature. | Ah - I see, fair enough. Things are looking up for me as I have just managed to upload a 70kb pic and it only took me just over 30 minutes to do it. |

Thank you everyone for your responses to my question and after reading the replies I can see why this policy has been introduced having seen examples of the image posting problems that may occur at other sites where 'Bandwidth exceeded' notices look messy and replace images. If there are no problems with adding links to websites for info on which there could well be images existing which illustrate a point being made then I am happy with that. I value the Internet as being in many ways one of the main ways that information can be exchanged between people quickly.
Once again, thank you for clearing the matter up for me and thank you too, to those who included such messages, for the welcomes! |

| | | Re: Why no posting links to outside sites? I think one of the best (worst) examples of this was the 'members mugshots' thread which used to feature dozens of images, which were lost because of the way that they were embedded. That thread was always the most popular by far but became massively disjointed when the links became 'distorted'. That thread never really recovered from those problems and so many more threads have had a lot of time put into them only for the image to then change, resulting in a small red marker, where the image use to be, and pages and pages of really great infomative text and debate about a ......... red marker.
It is also worth noting that some members do include images from there own sites in an effort to increase page hits on their own sites, and as a way of enticing other members to visit. This previously has got really out of hand.(I feel that both threads [on this issue] have been quite diplomatic in their not mentioning such activities, which have caused problems in the past, and as usual a few members activities have resulted in rules being changed which, unfortunately, affect everybody)
We all benefit from being able to 'promote' our own sites by way of signatures etc, and I am still astonished at how some members do this without even giving WAB a mention on their own site, which to me seems only courteous.
I have given countless members my personal telephone number to talk them through image resizing with Picasa and am always happy to do this, should they wish to PM me. |

I have given countless members my personal telephone number to talk them through image resizing with Picasa and am always happy to do this, should they wish to PM me. | I have my own website but have never included images from there. Two days ago was the first time I have ever used a 3rd party site on WAB and this was out of sheer fraustration at not being able to upload to WAB.
My problem is nothing to do with resizing as I have tried 800 x 533 jpegs at all sizes from 70kb to 200kb. There is also nothing wrong with the files as I have emailed a few to Stu who has had no trouble at all uploading them to WAB. My internet connection is sound and fast (on 8mb Max abd actually getting around 4-5 mb down and 448kb up). I upload to at least five other sites with no problems whatsoever and also often upload 5 mb files to an image printing web site. I always make sure the Cache is clear and have tried both IE7 and Firefox and also my Laptop as well as my desktop all with the same mega problems in trying to upload to WAB. Sometimes I try say 20 times to upload over a couple of hours and then on the 21st attempt it will upload right away.
There is definitely something different/wrong about uploading to WEB as compared to other sites and is problematic to many users and I do not think it can be just palmed off as user error. |

The Mods have made their decision, they do an amazing job keeping this site up and running smoothly and making it a pleasure to be part of.
But now we are just going round in circles and getting repetative.. isn't it time to close this one down???
