John | Hi John, When I try to upload my browser will stay on 'waiting for http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/gallery/upload/php...' until it times out.
Some times if I keep hitting the submit button after a time out it will eventually upload but this could take anything up to three hours before I finally get it uploaded.
I have tried both IE7 and Firefox with similar results. This week I have spent over ten hours without getting a single upload. Sizes and file extentions are all ok. I cannot make this out as I regularly upload to at least 5 other sites with no problems what so ever. |

Could you send me one of the images that you're trying to upload to email@wildabout... and I'll have a go at doing from this end by uploading under your username
Thanks

Stu | Stu, I have had this trouble with all the images in my Gallery that I have posted in the last couple of months, Most of them took around a hour or more before they uploaded.
Also the five images that I linked in the thread '400mm f5.6 and 2x teleconverter trial' that I started today - I have been trying all week to upload these.
Cheers

Could you try to upload one of the sample pics images from your Window's 'my documents > my pictures > sample pictures' folder, like the blue hills or sunset pic, to the 'forum images' category of the gallery. These sample pics come with Windows when it's installed and are small jpeg files that should give us some idea if you're having problems uploading standard images.

Stu | Hi Stu, Have tried uploading 'blue hills' and another very small jpeg (avatar) that I created and they both uploaded no prob's. Tried to upload the Chaffinch pic that you quote above and could not upload. It seems to be down to the size of the image and I can only upload very small file sizes. I have tried on both my Desktop and Laptop with the same results. Most of my files are around 100kb and always below 200kb.
Cheers

Looking like it is a file size problem.
Cheers

Can I suggest a few things
Try clearing the cache (delete cookies and Internet Files) Found in:
Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Delete Cookies & files
Also worth doing:
Go to the 'start' menu
'control panel'
'network and internet connections'
'internet options', then on the 'security' tab click on 'custom level', then scroll just over half way down until you get to 'navigate sub-frames across different domains' and click on 'enable'
Worth a try

John | Hi John, many thanks - I frequently clear the cache by using 'ccleaner' about twice a week so it is not that. I will try enabling 'navigate sub-frames across different domains'.

Stu | Hi Stu, see you managed to upload the file I sent you so I guess there was nothing unusual about it? |

| | | Re: Problem uploading I can't add anymore insight to this problem i'm afraid , there must be somesort of incompatibility between your software and wabs but If minds such as those who have already posted can't help you then I'm certainly not capable of doing so.
What I would say is that if anyone has persistent problems such as this I am quite happy to upload images for them in the short term while their problems are being resolved (obviosly providing the volume is reasonable) - anyone who wants to take me up on this should pm me their email address , I will then reciprocate with mine enabling images to be sent over.

| | | Re: Problem uploading I use to have a big problem uploading, But thanks to lots of help and advice from certain members.. I finally sussed it out.. I use HP Photosmart Premier on my computor to resize my photo's to 800x 600... then I Click on the How to box above members names. and click on Add to Gallery, Click on the link and just add my photos.... It is simple..
Before I use to click on Gallery and try to load them on there and failed everytime.. Now I never seem to have a problem

| | | Re: Problem uploading i think your issue was related to image size kym - thus you ought to now suceed if you go to gallery and click on the upload images there too soo long as you resize them as you are doing now.
by the way the manage attachements button on the reply/ new post pages is redundant - a lot of new members have had issues trying to use that to add images
sadly tho I doubt that either of these is the solution to roys issue

| | | Re: Problem uploading Hi,
I've never had a problem uploading before and have over 100 images in the gallery. But tonight it's just not happening. It says "Opening page http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/gallery/upload.php..." in the status bar and then just sits there for hours. I've tried clearing the cache and even rebooting my PC but it's still the same. Is there a problem on the server at the moment?

Dave P. | Same problem here Dave, I've noticed this happening a few times recently. Sometimes the upload is immediate other times the upload.php page just doesn't load. I've just tried to upto upload a bug and the page just sits there waiting. No problems before this so it isn't my computer. |

On odd occasions I can upload right away but mostly it can take an hour or so. Sometimes I try an upload and give up after an hour -I will then try the same file the next day and it will upload. I have now given up trying to upload to WAB. Strange thing is that I have got a good broadband connection and have never had a problem with any other web site. |

| | | Re: Problem uploading Still no idea why there is a problem with some uploads, especially when so many are uploading without any problems. The new template has stripped away all javascript etc and basically uses a 'vanilla' template, so finding any issues should be a lot easier than before. Could you each post info about which browser you're using. |

However when I hit the upload problem I try with IE7 and Firefox with the same result. It must be a server side issue Stuart as the images I tried to upload around midnight have uploaded without problem first thing this morning

I am new to this so I thought it was user error. But looks like I may have just been unlucky.

Kev | If it's a one-off then I'd guess that you were maybe uploading during a backup when the server loads are particularly high, giving priority to the the backup processes and slowing down other parts of the site. If it's a regular occurence then it would have to be something else, but I can't see anything that would be creating upload issues. |

| | | Re: Problem uploading Okay, somebody please slap me - really hard! I've just been trying to upload again this evening with the same lack of success. And then I noticed the file extension... I'm trying to upload the 17Mb tiff file instead of the 200Kb jpeg No wonder the poor old server was having none of it! I sincerely apologise if I've been causing problems for other users and I promise to be a lot more careful in future.
