| | | (lovely) Black spider ..not in much detail I'm afraid. Found in september under a conifer log in my garden. Have seen black spiders before, but none as beautiful as this one.
Suggestions for ID welcome
(I had considered Rita, or Stanley, depending on id )

Either of the two are pretty uncommon to rare, a nice find and would make a good record worthy of a proper i.d.

| | | Re: (lovely) Black spider I casually ended up on this fairly old topic. I'm going to bump it since the spider is actually a pretty interesting find. Considering overall morphology, coloration, wide prosoma and the visible abdominal sigilla, the spider belongs to the genus Gnaphosa.
Considering the pitch black coloration, what seems to be a considerable size (can Dannica confirm this?) and the location, I believe it's pretty safe to say this spider is Gnaphosa lugubris, a quite rare and possibly under-recorded species. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
