| | | Segestria florentina - deceased Spider lovers look away now - came across this corpse the other day inside the back door. At first I thought it was a Tegenaria as I picked up one a couple of days before, but looking closer, realised it was wrong shape and on closer inspection saw the green fangs.
It is a bit dessicated and crumbling but thought it might be interesting for some you of to look at, as usually don't get this close. Seems to 23mm long in body and about 50mm tip of back leg to tip of front leg.
Don't know what happened, presumably it got stepped on in the dark, glad whoever stepped on it was wearing their slippers.
Looks dried out so must have been there for a few days, my brother has run off with the vacuum cleaner, other wise it might have been sucked up without being noticed. A couple of days earlier I picked up a stationary Tegenaria, so don't know why I didn't seen it then. Looked today at the Tegenaria, it hasn't moved but it isn't dead, so something must have got at it, maybe another Segestria ? |

| | | Re: Segestria florentina - deceased Awesome! My favourite spider. First came into contact with Tube-webs about 7 years ago and they always thrill me. The female is just so impressive. Pity this one is no more but keep it to show folks! Well I would, but then that's me.

The last couple I have seen dead, seem to have had that type of damage.

| | | Re: Segestria florentina - deceased No I don't think it is bitten through at the waist. There is a small hole at the rear corner, you can see it on the final photo. but that could have been caused when it was crushed. Don't know what would have attacked it anyway, as it was indoors.
Yes I will keep it awhile (with the poor dragonfly that my brothers puppy snatched out of the air) till it disintegrates, a leg just fell off. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
