| | | ID : Arachnid from Mid Devon. Hello,
I have just found a spider indoors that troubles me. A good look though both the Roberts and Jones books twice leaves me none the wiser so does anyone recognise this one?
Regards,
Andrew. |

| | | Re: ID : Arachnid from Mid Devon. false widow spider ( Steatoda grossa) Found mainly in the southern half of the UK. Frequently found at coastal areas, especially in south west England.
The abdomen is a red-brown colour with a crescent shaped stripe at the front and three pale triangular spots along the top. These markings vary from spider to spider. Sometimes they're cream coloured (as above) and sometimes they're purple or very dark brown. harmless dont worry about it

| | | Re: ID : Arachnid from Mid Devon. Fantastic, thanks for this. I was discussing this with a couple of people a few weeks ago and did not recognise it at all. I am pleased to have on in our house now!

| | | Re: ID : Arachnid from Mid Devon. Yes, I have them in my larder, Andrew. I had to relocate them last year when I painted it but they seem to have moved back in now.
And I found S. nobilis in my workshed. |

| | | Re: ID : Arachnid from Mid Devon. I'm curious as to why you think this looks more like a linyphid No.9, I don't see anything out of sorts with a young s. grossa.
