| | | The unknown spider Hi,
Found this little fella in the roof space of my garage today whilst having a clearout. Any ideas?
Thanks,

| | | Re: The unknown spider I just released one Steadota nobilis back where it came from tonight in Park Farm Ashford Kent. I showed it to my GP who was very interested to see what one looked like as we also have them here in my village. He said that all GP's should know about this spider in case they had a patient who had been bitten by one. They should also know what symptoms may be experienced by such patients and what could be done to alleviate these symptoms. I am told that the antivenom for 'Black widow' may be of help to severe cases.

| | | Re: The unknown spider Doesn't look like S. Nobilis to me...
Looks like something else that I have in my garden, but I don't know what it is. Body size would be good to know.
I think the colouration is a bit off for Nobilis. Happy to be proven wrong though! |

| | | Re: The unknown spider Hi,
I would suggest (as i'm not planning to measure it!!) that the body size is approx 10 to 15mm.
Having noticed this one I have now spotted approx. 10 of these in different sizes in corners of my garden wall (wall is about 6ft high). They appear to make "non standard" webs, and hide in a small hole at the edge of the web.
Fascinating, but i hope they're not all false widows!! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
