As Aeshna said this spider is more than likely a Steatoda sp.

I'll assume this was first hand, you made the identification, and that a second spider or critter was unlikely (though not impossible as it was presumably found in the bed sheets post trauma, not in the act of envenoming flesh).

Yes, the spider was captured immediately on the spot and identified by myself. Resulted in a nasty infected wound. The jaws off the male S. scenicus are pretty impressive, almost as much as those of Dysdera sp. given the size difference.
