| | | Spider ID please Just found this guy on my front door, seemed to be courting a female. I believe it to be a Zygiella atrica, judging by the extended pedipalps, but would appreciate confirmation/disagreement. Was around 3-4mm from fangs to spinners

| | | Re: Spider ID please The general habitus does indeed suggest Z. atrica. However, the pedipalps aren't as long as usual for the species. Normally they are so long, they could almost be confused with legs, see for example here: Datei:Zygiella atrica m pedi links.jpg ? Wiki des Spinnen-Forums
Usually Z. atrica isn't found near houses, but exceptions surely occur.
Unfortunately, the only way to be sure is to examine the palps in detail...

| | | Re: Spider ID please Not an easy call from your photo but on close inspection would go for male Zygiella x-notata. My ID is based on the markings on abdomen and the lack of red colouration and from the angle of view the size of the palps. The overall size of the spider would fit the male of bothZ. atrica and Z. x-notata As you were able to study the spider closely and lighting conditions may not have done the subject justice, you may dispute my observations. |

| | | Re: Spider ID please Thank you both. I did take some more pics the day after, and I am quite confident they are Z.x-notata not atrica
