| | | big green spider found a big green spider in my garden.unfortunately it'd had hidden by the time i got my camera out.it was around 2 inches,an emerald green colour and it looked like it had sparkly diamonds all down its legs.anyone know what this could be?ive trawled the interweb but cant figure out what it is

| | | Re: big green spider thanks for getting back to me so quickly!could be that spider although it looked a bit darker than that.and sparkly like it was made of emeralds.it would have made a lovely brooch!it was in my back garden crawling up the side of the shed.that area is a bit overgrown with brambles etc.oh and im in scotland,in a suburban area just outside glasgow |

| | | Re: big green spider OK, given your location, try Araniella cucurbitana. This and Micrommata virescens are the best match for green spiders, but Micrommata virescens has a Southern distribution.

| | | Re: big green spider thanks for replying.I think it must have been the Micrommata virescens you mentioned although it was darker in colour.Wikipedia says the other spider doesnt get over a cm in size and the one i saw was around 2 inches in size.I'll keep a lookout if the poor thing hasnt been blown away in this wind to try and find it again and try and get pictures.

| | | Re: big green spider is it odd that i find that one strangely cute?but no,mine was a big bit bigger than that wee guy.he looked like the green huntsman but maybe a bit darker emeraldy green and he looked sparkly.is the green huntsman hairy at all?it could have been rare sunshine shining on his hair that made him sparkly.although at the time he looked just like a shiny brooch |
