| | | Smallish orange/cream spider I have been seeing really small, about 0.5mm i would guess, orangey/cream spider like things in my living room near to the garden door. First of all they resemble small spiders but when i looked closer they have the body of a cream booklice but with legs like a spider, so almost lice/mite-like in appearance as well. I googled 'spider mites' and they seem to resemble this picture: http://www.allotment.org.uk/garden-d...spidermite.jpg. Although they have like a black dot at the end of their bodies. I'm really uncertain as to what they are, whether they are mites/lice or spiders. I'm quite worried as to what they're doing in my living room as I have no indoor plants. Any ideas? thanks. |

| | | Re: Smallish orange/cream spider I think you could be right there! I don't know anything about spiders at all, what are spiderlings? Are they the baby versions? =/ And why have i found a cluster of them inside my living room? Do you think they'll cause any harm?.
EDIT: ACTUALLY! I've found a picture of exactly what they look like: http://www.elizabethmoon.com/archive...derling497.jpg
What are these types of spider and are they harmful in any way?!

| | | Re: Smallish orange/cream spider I've seen a few more today, I tried to take a picture of them but as i went close it went out of focus, i'm sorry these are the best I could take:
You can clearly see how small they are though, next to my hand. Any input? mite or a spider? =/ getting really anxious now.
Again, apologies for the bluriness of them. |

| | | Re: Smallish orange/cream spider Can anyone hazard a guess as to what they are? If it helps they are around my garden door area and usually underneath my sofa chairs so i'm guessing they like the dark? I'm getting seriously worried they could be some form of bird or rodent mite. help |

| | | Re: Smallish orange/cream spider Have a look at the picture of the araneus diadematus spiderlings on this website - sounds like the ones you've got.
Absolutely harmless to humans.

| | | Re: Smallish orange/cream spider It's definitely not that, Matt.
The ones i've got have like a smallish grey/black head, and bigger orange body and creamish/orange legs..kind of translucent almost. To put it this way they're like 3 times bigger than those red spider mite things that crawl insanely fast, but smaller than fully grown spiders...they are about the size of those spiderlings you suggested but they look completely different. |

| | | Re: Smallish orange/cream spider Still sounds like spiderlings (as they have translucent looking legs ) but not diadematus then - not sure you'll be able to get a name for them I'm afraid - spiders are hard enough, even with adults and sharp close-ups.

| | | Re: Smallish orange/cream spider Spiderlings sound most likely. That would also explain why there's a lot of them in one place. On the plus side there's very few spiders in UK that are harmful. And especially not the spiderlings. |

| | | Re: Smallish orange/cream spider Okay thanks for your help guys! I just get a bit worried because there seems to be a lot of them and whenever there's lots of unknown insects i get freaked out. Well i've sent a sample off to be indenitifed by a pest controller. Hope I get some answers! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
