| | | Any suggestions? Sorry, no photo, but I had a spider in my tent while camping in a field in Derbyshire the other day. Body shape and markings very similar to a tegenaria but legs much shorter than any of those that I've ever seen. Body length was probably about 13mm and the colour was kind of orangey-brown.
I'd be interested to know what it was, I've never seen one like it before. Does anybody have any ideas?
Thanks, Juliet |

| | | Re: Any suggestions? Hmm, not sure. That doesn't look quite right, but I can't put my finger on why. I think the body was more rounded (although it seems to vary a lot in the pics I've just seen on Google) and the legs maybe shorter.
Unfortunately I was too busy being impressed with myself for picking up such a big spider in my hands to take enough notice of it
I've certainly seen Agelena labyrinthica before, and always seen a very obvious web. I didn't see a web anywhere and it's all short grass in the field (I think it's normally grazed) so I'm not sure it's the right habitat either.
Thanks for the reply anyway. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people on here |

| | | Re: Any suggestions? Coelotes species looks a definite possibility, thanks. It was a lot paler than the photos I've just found of Coelotes atropos - do they vary a lot? |

| | | Re: Any suggestions? No, I'm sure it wasn't Pisaura mirabilis. I'm cursing myself for leaving the camera in the tent. I did consider getting it but I didn't want to risk squashing the spider.
Thanks |

| | | Re: Any suggestions? Thanks Nik. Amaurobius similis doesn't look far off at all. Colour not quite right in the pics I've seen, but certainly body shape very close. But I've looked at too many pictures and I have a terrible memory so now I guess I'll never know!!
Cheers,
