Hi all, my friend is travelling in India but has had his journey cut short by a spider bite. This was the one which bit him but he doesn't know what it was. He's flying back to UK to get it sorted but in the meantime wants help identifying it. I know it isn't a UK species but someone might help. Cheers.  |

Sounds serious if he is having to fly home.
Isn't there any web site, and/or online organisation in India you can get help from?

Not that I know of, he's not in a very built up area unfortunately. |

Has the look of a Heteropoda species, the giant crab spider family. There are numerous species that answer to the look of this spider. Unusual to have to curtail a trip, maybe he has a particular reaction to the venom or has copped for a secondary infection.
