| | | Spider I.D. I find spiders very difficult! I know this is a hunting spider of some sort but which one? I have always classed all this type of spider as a wolf spider but it would be great if someone could enlighten me
I've trawled the collins field guide and can narrow it down to over half a dozen. Any help greatly appreciated!

| | | Re: Spider I.D. Wolf spider is probably the more common name for the Lycosidae family, originating in t'old days when they were thought to run in packs like wolves, as so many were seen at a time.
This is probably a Pardosa species but there are no guarantees with Lycosidae species, like many species they cannot be i.d.'d from photo's, they have to go under the microscope for positive i.d.

| | | Re: Spider I.D. Hi, thanks for the reply. It's good to know that these are so difficult to tell apart and its not just a deficiency in my observation skills Wolf spider is never the less a good name for the group I think.
Thanks Again
