| | Small House Spider ID needed Hey Wild About Britain forums, I have a little house spider that I've noticed wandering about for a few days now, I'd like an ID if it is a known species, Pictures below, Thanks. |

| | | Re: Small House Spider ID needed Thanks for helping me out with this one, what about a Amaurobius fenestralis? "Window Lace Weaver" or something, just found about that species now and it looks pretty much what I have here, It never seems to stray too far away from my front door which has large windows on it, also can you tell if it's a female or male? |

| | | Re: Small House Spider ID needed It could be amaurobius fenestralis as that and amaurobius similis look very much alike. I think your resident spider is a female. |

| | | Re: Small House Spider ID needed Yup I also believe it's either Amaurobius similis or Amaurobius fenestralis, more so Amaurobius similis because I read they're the version lurking in the home near windows, thanks for the help Rob. Here's one more picture of it.

| | | Re: Small House Spider ID needed Found large one of these in my bed. For some reason suddenly decided to check under quilt before getting into bed and found one right where my knees would have been. They are quite lethargic during day but I believe they hunt at night. And can give a sharp bite if pushed too far - like lying on them.
On further investigation I found 5 or 6 lurking around the window and up the curtains. The window wasn't shutting properly and they were creeping in. Bit creepy thinking they were hunting around my bed every night, don't know what they were eating.
The spiders were evicted into the garden and window blocked up.
Found quite a few indoors the last 2 winters. Hadn't noticed them much before that. Maybe the extra cold weather brought them in. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
