| | | Jumper ID required Hi Everyone,
I have a Jumper that I hope someone will be able to ID for me. I know these spiders are never the easiest to ID but I feel the leg markings on this one are very distinctive. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Cheers

| | | Re: Jumper ID required Heliophanus cupreus is a possible species for this, very similar to H. Kochii. Heliophanus kochii as far as I can see doesn't have any records for the UK.

Thanks for your thoughts on this, though I'm almost sure that it is indeed "H Kochii". What makes me believe it's Kochii and not Cupreus is that this jumper was found where I work where I come across numerous species, the hard part is seperating British species from the others that arrive from Europe.
I have a few reference pages bookmarked myself but I really don't know where to begin trying to ID jumpers, where do you start? Is there something particular you look for?
I've just noticed that I posted a shot last year and looking at it now, is probably also H. Kochii.
Thanks again both, really appreciate your time.
Cheers

Thanks for the offer. I tend to keep all of the jumpers I find, I enjoy watching the different behaviours from species to species. Just out of curiosity how would you determine a positive ID?
Cheers

| | | Re: Jumper ID required It would have to go under the microscope to look at the epigyne detail to ascertain a positive i.d. (provided it's a mature female of course). It would prove too difficult to do this on a live specimen unfortunately.
