| | | Jumping Tegenaria. I just found what I think was a Tegenaria sp. When it tried to get away from me I swear it jumped. Is it possible for smaller Tegenaria sp to jump? Is it possible for non Salticidae sp to jump? Of course it is possible it could have fallen. |

| | | Re: Jumping Tegenaria. There are certainly non-Salticids that jump. Clubiona species can jump quite well, albeit over rather small distances. It seems to me that the Clubiona's I've seen jumping were all rather small (either juvenile, or simply smaller species).
I can't recall seeing a Tegenaria jump, but I can imagine that juveniles do.

| | | Re: Jumping Tegenaria. Well I've just seen it again and it definitely jumped a few times. I took some photos of it with my iPhone but my camera work is rubbish. I will try and upload them soon. I have read that Tegenaria sp will 'dance' in order to confuse predators. Is that true? |

| | | Re: Jumping Tegenaria. It's not a Tegenaria. An emaciated Scotophaeus blackwalli? at a glance though can't say I'm familiar with males nor if they have the abdominal pattern. They can jump!

| | | Re: Jumping Tegenaria. No, it's a Clubiona (notice the distance between the posterior median eyes and the typical abdominal pattern).
Here's one that looks just like it: http://wiki.spinnen-forum.de/index.p...na_comta_m.JPG

| | | Re: Jumping Tegenaria. Thanks Frits. It does seem to be Clubiona. Judging by a search I've done it seems to be pretty rare near me. Are they common in houses? As I associate them with bushy areas/gardens? |

| | | Re: Jumping Tegenaria. I have lots of Clubiona's in the garden, but hardly ever inside. Maybe it got transported inside somehow?
On the other hand, this seems like it could be an adult male. I imagine they become a bit more adventurous when searching for females ;-)

| | | Re: Jumping Tegenaria. I also got a Clubiona inside the house at the end of February:
And it was upstairs, which surprised me, as spiders coming from the outside tend to be in the kitchen. I remember how well it jumped.
