| | | False widow spider ? Guessing this might be a false widow spider Steatoda grossa with a bumble bee capture- taken yesterday. Believe it or not the bumble bee had nearly escaped the web when i checked 5 mins later and I plead guilty to then successfully releasing it.

| | | Re: False widow spider ? Wow, that looks like a Bombus terrestris queen, an enormous dinner for a spider. I have seen spiders falling on Araneus webs and the spiders, after a little check, retreating as if preferring not to tackle it, and the bumblebee finally flying away. So the same might have happened to your bumble, on the other hand, I don't know about Steatoda.
