| | | Raft spider? I was astounded to find a raft spider (about an inch across) in the kitchen this morning - sitting in the bottom of a glass that had been left below a window sill.
Surely it's far too early for raft spiders to be that size, and what on earth would it be doing in the kitchen? Not a lot of course, considering it was stuck in the glass! I left the camera at work today, so will go in tomorrow and post a picture as well.
Are there any other spiders out there that are similar to raft spider in appearance? I took it outside and released it on the pond - it didn't seem too used to that and quickly struggled to the edge and clambered out again! |

I wish I had a quid for every time a poster has asked for a location on this site!

Mind you it wouldn't be the first one to be found in a Kitchen.... Spiders bred in kitchen to be released into wild | Mail Online |

| | | Re: Raft spider? Hi all,
Sorry - should have put the location in my original post. I live in Poole, Dorset and yes, there are thriving populations of raft spider about a mile away on the heatland pools. As it happens, I had been out on the heath two days before ( I work for the Wildlife Trust) and a colleague has suggested that maybe it got attached to my clothing somehow.
It's a possibility I suppose - though I'm still surprised at the size of it this early in the season?
Thanks for all the responses,

Thanks for all the responses,
Spudders | Think your colleague is right with suggesting it hitched a ride in.
As for the size- I wondered whether some of the adults over- winter perhaps?
