| | | Segestria Bavarica Information Hi and good morning,
I have identified a spider we found in our home last night as a Segestria Bavarica but I can't find any information on it anywhere. I was hoping someone may be able to tell me more about it. I have never seen one before and it does not seem to be a usual house spider.
I live in SE England in an old cottage, not sure if this is relevent or not
Thanks in anticipation, |

a beautiful six eyed tube web spider

| | | Re: Segestria Bavarica Information Below is the current distribution for Segestria bavarica. As you can see it is a very uncommon species and is without exception to date found only on the coast. The likelihood of your specimen being S. bavarica is highly unlikely, but should be proven one way or another. An initial photo would be of interest and your method of determining it's i.d. also. Size and actual location are helpful, as with other Segestria species it should be in a tube of silk in a wall or rock, with a number of lines of web radiating out from the tube.
Photographs in books are only generally helpful and not reliable for a proper i.d. even down to family level in many cases.
...........and welcome to WAB! The Updated Distribution Maps - British Arachnological Society
Regards, No.9 Spider
