| | | Re: Male spider for identification It reminds me at first glance of a Pachygnatha species, though this is of the top of my head so don't hold me to it! I'll have a further look later.

| | | Re: Male spider for identification Hi Bruce,
This looks like a male I had inside last year in late November which I thought looked like Neriena peltata.
I also had a female which looked similar but a different colour in December but the females of Nerine montana look similar to males of N. peltata!
I could be wrong..
Janet

| | | Re: Male spider for identification Those clearly annulated legs do suggest Nerine montana to me; male and females both have similar leg markings. It is probably getting a bit late in the year though.
N. peltata may have some slight darker patches on the legs but not to that extent. Roberts gives N. peltata being found into the autumn but I only seem to find them during Spring and early Summer. |

| | | Re: Male spider for identification Thanks for your help and suggestions on ID everyone .
Photo was taken on 10th April 2010 (date on image).
Size is 5.5-6.0mm (excluding pedipalps).
I have to agree (having since checked out a fair few images) that it does look good for a Nerine species and I feel that the legs do more closely match N. montana on the images that I've seen so far.
This pic for example: http://www.uku.fi/~holopain/ento/Nerine-montana.jpg

| | | Re: Male spider for identification I had my male marked as Nerine montana until I saw a pic of a male on eurospiders, then comparing the male of N. peltata that looked more correct. But, having a female and a male inside within about two weeks of each other suggests they could be the same species whichever that is. Neriene peltata photos and info Neriene montana photos and info

| | | Re: Male spider for identification Thanks Janet .
Just found this pic of what I'm pretty sure is a female N. montana. It was taken in the same location (as you can see from the background) in April this year.

| | | Re: Male spider for identification I would agree with that Bruce! My female had deeper colours with an almost deep reddish-pink abdomen, but the patterns are near identical. I'll load her up for you to see...
