| | | Re: Black spider with amber socks A superb photograph as usual Bruce and an uncommon species whichever it may be. I must come collecting some time on your stomping ground!
Looks good for Zelotes sp. or Drassyllus sp, and most are uncommon.
I don't think it's Trachyzelotes pedestris as that has orange/yellow tibia as well as tarsi and metatarsi. It's difficult to say without the old microscope, though I think Drassyllus pusillus is a possibility.
No.9 Spider

| | | Re: Black spider with amber socks I've looked and compared it with the suggestions on t'interweb sites and wouldn't like to say for sure - I'm no expert and no help at all (I can hear myself saying whinely 'I don't reaaalllly knooow') - but I do like spiders and as usual a smashing shot Bruce! I found those two different coloured bits of its legs fascinating - sure you haven't been decorating somewhere?!!!!

| | | Re: Black spider with amber socks Thank you for your help with identification John and No.9 Spider - I forgot to mention that the spider measured 4mm (excluding legs of course) - I don't know if that helps any?
Thanks everyone for your interest and kind comments - always much appreciated.

I have just joined the forum and noticed your post.I have a copy of Spiders of Britain and Northern Europe by Dick Jones which has exellent photo,s plus illustrations.Your spider is a Zelotes pusillus ,pedestris has amber upto the femur whilst pusillus only has amber on the tarsus and metatarsus.Hope this helps.

| | | Re: Black spider with amber socks Hi GNR479,
Firstly a warm welcome to the forum. I'm sorry I took a while posting a reply but as I hadn't posted to the Spider Forum recently I wasn't checking in as frequently.
Thank you for your help with identification and for the info you used to key the id - much appreciated.

No.9 Spider | Welcome to WAB...............
The possibility of the species was put forward, but photographs are never 100% reliable and can vary indiscernably or drastically, the only reliable method being genitalia under the microscope.
