| | | What is this spider? Hello,
I found a spider in my house. and to be honest I've seen ALOT of them that look like this ever since I came back from Turkey...
Long story short, I found a spider in my case. Despite having my boyfriend and step dad here to safely dispose of the spider in my garden, they failed to catch it! But they told me they had, anyway, the next night (so this is three days after I got back from holiday..) the spider was in my bed! This time we caught it and chucked it outside.
Anyway its been a couple of months and I have found several massive spiders around my house, but none as big as this one! I am worried that it isn't a british spider, because it is huge! So if someone could tell me whether its something to worry about..
It was too big to fit in a pint glass, just incase the image doesnt do it any justice. Oh and its body was quite fluffy if that helps at all!
Thanks for any help! |

| | | Re: What is this spider? I'd say that's a British Common House Spider - Tegenaria species, there's a lot of mature males running around at this time of year.
A photo of the original stowaway may have been interesting and identifiable though probably nothing to worry about.

| | | Re: What is this spider? The male is smaller bodied and has longer legs. Females of spiders tend to have the heavier/ better build and look bigger, this is general for British species aside I think for Argyroneta aquatica the Water Spider where the male is the larger of the sexes.
