Found this spider on a web right on a path I use every day, scared the **** outta me

This one looks like Argiope lobata, a relative of the wasp spider, A. bruennichi.

Thank you very much. I have just been looking on the web now that I know it's name and found one post saying it's dangerous... is this true?

I'd imagine painful but unlikely to be 'dangerous' as such (barring severe allergies of course!), and they're not a notable dangerous species as far as I'm aware.
Nice find I've not come across one yet in my forays in the Algarve.

I've only seen this smart spider once, which was in the Camargue, where there were lots of Wasp Spiders too, before they were widespread here (in the south).
