That's an Araniella species. Looks like a young one. Was the picture taken recently?

Thank you frits. I took this image this afternoon on one of the grassy hills overlooking Langstone Harbour (near Portsmouth).

Thank you. I have checked on Wikepedia and the description there agrees with your ID. The location was a wooded area and the leaf is ivy which gives the scale. The web and spider sizes look right.
