Unidentified Spider

Have discovered (excuse my non-appreciation of natures wonders) a flippin' ugly brute of a spider, living in a hollow window-sill, attached to my neighbours garage (overhanging my patio).

I have fought my natural instinct to club the monster to death with a shovel (if I had one strong enough), and have decided to enquire about it's origins, before I phone the local zoo to repatriate the beast with the other man-eating creatures.

Body (from bulbous back end to front of head) is about 3/4 inch (although looks more like a foot)

As you can gather, I'm not a great fan of these things.

Any clues for me?

That there is a Steatoda Nobilis.

Yes that is a Steatoda Nobilis otherwise known as False Widow Spider. I am NOT a fan of these things, it is the only spider that I will kill on sight, which I won't go into on this thread.

By the way, which county do you live in? They seem to be very numerous here in Cornwall.
