| | | Bright red spider ID Hi I am new to the forum, I just found it in my search for finding out the identification of a spider I came across today. I work at a supermarket and whilst outside store by the delivery lift I picked up a piece of cardboard to find a medium sized spider suddenly crawl away. It was the most unusual spider I've ever seen, with bright all-red legs and a bright red body. I've heard of stories of poisonous spiders coming from other countries in fruit and veg deliveries etc. and I am now really curious as to what it was. Can anyone help me? Thanks. |

| | | Re: Bright red spider ID Evening Roxy, and welcome to WAB!
t could be from abroad ( but there are surprisingly colourful ones that are native) - but hard to say with only a description, there are a load out there world-wide! Can you take a camera to work next time, and try for a picture that way? It'll give us more to go on. A colour drawing uploaded to our Image Archive would be good if not.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Bright red spider ID I've just looked up the dysdera crocata and the one I saw was of a brighter red colour, almost bordering on pink especially the legs. And its body was less fat. Thanks though!
Sorry I wish I'd had the chance to take a photo of it, then I could have studied it better! Unfortunately I wouldn't have had the time to go and get a camera even if I had taken one in. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
