| | | 4 legged orange spider? Can anyone help me, I have just seen a really odd looking spider that appeared to only have 4 legs. Is there such a thing?
It was wandering along the grass, I didn't get a picture but it had an orange body that was smallish and I would say an oval shape. It had 4 large legs and looked as though it was struggling to carry the weight of its suspended body along. It moved slowly for having such long legs but was walking staight. Is this a spider I am intrigued? |

It's perfectly possible - it'll have lost the others, maybe in confrontations with other spiders or through predation attempts. They just seem to alter their movement pattern to compensate, and seem to get along well all the same.
A colour drawing would be great, and in the mean-time look-up Araneus diadematus - the Common Garden Spider.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: 4 legged orange spider? Yes possible. I did see my first Leiobunum rotundum of the year yesterday, which would fit the description; especially if long could be expanded to mean very long legs. |

| | | Re: 4 legged orange spider? Thank you very much. I have look it up and I am pretty sure it was the one suggested by Geoff. I am amazed how well the little chap was managing with only 4 legs | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
