Wasp Spider on its travels

From what I can research and not being knowledgeable about our 8 legged friends, I believe that these little fellows are only found in the south of England.

Not any more unless I'm mistaken, for one little fellow has made it all the way up to Rochdale, Lancashire and taken residence at the side of my house to the horror of the missus, who doesn't like the little things.

Will add a photo for verification when I work out how to.

Argiope bruennichi (if that's what yours is) is spreading steadily northwards and has been for a few years. I think the distribution map linked to is probably slightly out of date. Your spider has probably been carried to the area by some means or other though it's always worth keeping am eye out for more.
