| | | Spiders living near pond Hi
Was just wondering if anyone knew any species of spider that would choose to live by water. I have a well established pond which attracts various insects, frogs and also some grass snakes and a couple of days ago I noticed a couple of spiders that seemed to 'walk on water'! Struggling to get a picture as my old camera struggles with the reflection on the water but they are brown and maybe a little less than half an inch long. A bit of a vague description I know but any suggestions I could look into would be great. Thanks |

Other Lycosidae species can also be found in that habitat and are capable of walking on the surface of the water, though Pirata species can submerge themselves sometimes if they feel in danger. Have a check for light spots down the sides of the abdomen.

| | | Re: Spiders living near pond Hi,
There are several spider species that can walk on water, the most common are Pardosa species, and Pirata species. Less common (and a lot bigger) are Dolomedes species, with sizes of up to 2cm (not including legs).
