Spider for I.D - This scared me!!

Hi,

Please can someone tell me what spider this is. I have taken a few pics of it. It was crawling on my girlfriends towel this morning....

It looks like a Tegenaria domestica, a common house spider. Harmless, shake it out of the window!

This is one of the common House Spiders, from the Tegenaria genus - they don't all have English names so we have to use the Latin.

Thanks for the quick reply! Just the size of the thing scared me. We have had 2 or 3 over the past week or so, could there be a nest neatly by?

These spiders create egg-sacs, from which the spiderlings leave. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a 'sac in a dark corner nearby!

How long was it roughly, head to abdomen-tip excl. legs?

It's probably looking for a mate, Tom. They don't have nests. Just hide in corners or behind furniture. Welcome to WAB - hope you get interested in wild life.
