| | | ID a spider please Hello everyone -
Please could people help me ID this spider. Was found in a bunch of grapes, as you can probably tell by the photo. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._4777411_n.jpg
Many thanks

Was this found in the UK? The spider isn't native here, but probably harmless. Still, handle it with care!
Await subsequent responses for advice on what to do with it... but don't release it here.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: ID a spider please Looks like Latrodectus geometricus - the Brown Widow. Treat with respect, the bite can be painful though not as bad as Latrodetus mactans, the Black Widow.
Where were the grapes bought? Spiders don't survive the importation as much as they used to.
If you check the underside of the abdomen you should still see an orange hour-glass shape.
If you are not happy keeping it, a short while in the freezer is an option, but don't let it go as Jason has said, as it may be mated and could produce young which are miniscule little things, and check for 'spiky' egg-sacs in the rest of the grapes!
The above advice is subject to you being in the UK, where the spider is a non-native species.
Welcome to WAB

Take care, Jason | This spider looks like a european black widow and is capable of doing some serious harm!! http://tomsimons.beepworld.de/genus-latrodectus.htm
