| | | Spider with turret eyes Stony Stratford, Bucks,
Size: Please see scale bar.
Interesting eyes - raised on pods...
Boy could this spider move! It was just a matter of following him as he raced along the fence rail, mentally crossing fingers and pressing the shutter. I managed to get two in-focus shots before he disappeared into a crack.
Help with identification appreciated as always:

| | | Re: Spider with turret eyes Wow! Beautiful picture... I'm sure websites and book publishers would pay good money for a photo like this one.
It's a Linyphiid for sure. I'll look into possible candidates.

| | | Re: Spider with turret eyes Doh! . Just re-read my post on this and realised that I'd put Porhomma!!! (should be spelled Porrhomma anyway!).
What I meant was Hypomma, and I'm pretty certain from the raised carapace detail and from what I can see of the palpal detail, that this is a specimen of Hypomma bituberculatum. There was a posting of one of these a couple of weeks ago.

| | | Re: Spider with turret eyes I should have asked.....
Looking at the pedipalps, am I right in thinking that this is a male?

| | | Re: Spider with turret eyes Hi Bruce, the palps are quite distinct to indicate this as a male. Also in quite a few Linyphiidae species (mainly the small black looking 'money spiders') the carapace is raised into a lobe. This modified head or carapace only occurs in the male of the species and is to assist in mating!
Check out Peponocranium ludicrum or Walckenaria acuminata as good examples.
