| | | Unknown sider Hey
My friend spotted this spider on top of an outside switch, a couple of evenings ago. It is probable only 2cm in size, but looks pretty horride. Does anyone have any idea what it might be?
Many thanks to anyone can help.
p.s this is my first time, so hope the picture works |

No.9 Spider | It certainly has that metallic green shine to it, i agree with a Florentine. Why do you think it looks dead though?? Id say it was mearly hanging upside down. |

| | | Re: Unknown sider I would have said S. senoculata, not very well illuminated. Size and location would help, and the OP does say it is on top of the switch. The fact that the legs are tucked into the interstices (always wanted to slip that word in somewhere) of the switch in places makes it look quite live to me.

Id say it was mearly hanging upside down. | The spider is 'on top' of a light switch and the spider is in an unnatural position, legs stretched out pretty much flat to the surface, as unusually are the pedipalps. The switch is very wet, and so the spider is basically lying prone in water, the mouthparts and pedipalps are also. These spiders always have a very active stance and as with most spiders will not tolerate water. I'd say it was deceased, no more and an ex-spider (unless it's resting of course or drinking? )

| | | Re: Unknown sider Thank you guys for the help
It was definitely alive! It was on top of an outside light switch in a friends backgarden. We live in Hedge End in Southampton if that helps and the switch is positioned close to the house.
Any more questions to help to indentify I will try to answer
Thanks again |

I'm glad you think it is alive |
