| | | Tiny spider ID please Hi folks, could anyone ID this little fellow for me please. He was on fencing at a wetland center & about the size of what I call a money spider. He looks distingtive with his red body & black rear end but I can`t find him in my very limited book.
Sorry about the photo
Thanks for taking the time to look

| | | Re: Tiny spider ID please Hi Pam, I'd say this is Linyphiidae and of the sub-family Erigoninae. Many of the Linyphiidae are not covered in some guides as they are so numerous and not identifiable in the field.
A close up of the carapace would probably have got you a 99% i.d. as it has a distinctive raised carapace which is found on many males in this sub-family.
Looking at the raised head and the distinctive colouring I would be inclined towards a Hypomma species, such as Hypomma fulvum or Hypomma bituberculatum. I can't be 100% without the spider in front of me. They are my favourite group of spiders with mad heads, particularly Walckenaeria acuminata and the aptly named Peponocranium Ludicrum . Have a google on those two spiders!
No.9 Spider

| | | Re: Tiny spider ID please Hi no 9 spider, they are amazing aren`t they To be honest I thought you was winding me up with the latin name I know vitually nothing about spiders & it looks like there are so many sub species & families. I have looked at the Hypomma family & I can see a good resemlence. Thankyou so much for helping me out-on a terrible photo as well
