| | | Re: spider in garden for id please It's a Lycosidae species - Wolf spider, though doesn't appear to be a Pirata species that are sometimes found around ponds. Possibly Pardosa species but Lycosids are hard to determine without proper examination.

| | | Re: spider in garden for id please Assuming it is around 5 or 6 mm in body length, I would say Lycosidae family; and probably one of the Pardosa species. But these are impossible to correctly identify from a photograph.
Even with really clear images it still comes down to just guesswork.
Your spider markings are rather similar to Pardosa monticola which is common everywhere at this time of the year. But that is NOT a confirmed identification, just a wild irresponsible guess.
If it is bigger than 6 mm body length, there are a few alternatives to consider; but these will still be guesses.
ps. No. 9 was typing a reply at the same time, but basically the same answer, although he has a lot more experience.
