| | Small spider ID - baby house spider? :O Hey all! I'm new to the forums, first post
I found a tiny little spider in the lounge and the shape of its body etc reminded me of a house spider, so I started to wonder if it was a baby one. We had an adult one in the house the other week (which made an appearance in my bedroom ) so I'm getting worried that it's laid eggs and they've hatched
I got some pictures (to my mum's disgust!):
As you can see it has big...erm, fangs? I'm not sure what to call them
The body (inc legs) is probably about 1cm, but I'm not very good at guessing so that's just an estimate.
I'm hoping it's not a baby because I know they lay hundreds of eggs, and we don't want hundreds of spiders in the house! |

| | | Re: Small spider ID - baby house spider? :O It looks like a Philodromus to me. The species of that genus have the first two pairs of legs considerably longer than the hind two pairs. You can also make out the longitudinal lighter band across the front section, typical of the genus.
The two 'boxing-gloves'-like objects in front of its face are part of the male reproductive system; they are used to inject sperm into the female.
So, no, I don't think it's a house spider.
You can easily test this. If your spider can crawl up onto a vertical glass surface, it's not a house spider.
