| | | Spiders for ID These two spiders were seen in my Hampshire garden this week. They are both about 5mm in body length.

The second one is a jumping spider. In this case it's the Zebra spider, Salticus scenicus.

Thank you for the reply. I was tempted to mention how astonished I was how #2 leapt from leaf to leaf rather than walked.

| | | Re: Spiders for ID Yes it's a Wolf spider - Lycosidae species. Unfortunately, for this family it's nigh on impossible to i.d. to species level from photographs as markings are so variable and similar between species.

Thank you. This is not the first time I have had problems with spider species ID. As you say, there is so much variability within a species that it can sometimes make it imposible.
