| | | Black and amber spider producing silk Stony Stratford, Bucks. On fence near large pond. A very active little spider, difficult to miss despite its small size.
Size ~2.5mm
Help with identification and behaviour appreciated:

| | | Re: Black and amber spider producing silk Sorry took so long getting back to you Frits. Well here's an odd almost-dorsal viewpoint - a sort of 'anterior-dorsal' view:
Oh, if you want to see it I also have a 'running away' shot that provides another odd angle - posterior-dorsal this time .

| | | Re: Black and amber spider producing silk Hm, as this is a hard one (for me at least ;-), I'd certainly be interested in shots from other angles (would be good to see the shape of the prosoma from the top too).

Better wait for an expert...

| | | Re: Black and amber spider producing silk Wait a minute; it looks very much like Macrargus rufus (Linyphiidae). Check this site ( Pavouci CZ - Macrargus rufus) for some examples.
I don't know the genus very well, so I'm not aware of any lookalikes. M. rufus is not supposed to be uncommon.

| | | Re: Black and amber spider producing silk Thanks Frits - you're right it does look a very good fit for Macrargus rufus. I'll pencil that one in pending any further input.
