Tarantula Sighting

im asking a quick question, last year i was in Gravesend, Kent, on holiday, i live in Australia. i was walking along the foot path feeling rather jet lagged, then i notice something on the ground, it was a spider (husk?) of what im positive was a mexican red kneed tarantula. it was the biggest I've ever seen a spider. And i know fairly big as living in Australia i come across decent sized Huntsman fairly often.

i understand you can keep them as pets over there, so maybe it escaped, would it be able to survive in that climate?

and is it common place for Tarantula sightings?

They are regularly kept as pets and the red knee is one of the most common , familiar, and docile.they shed there skins regularly through there lifetime and this was probably the discarded shedding of someones pet. maybe even planted so someone found it giving the owner a good chuckle!
