| | [ID] Spider under log Hi all,
I saw this spider under a log today - who was then joined by a second. Any idea who it is? It seems to be quite robust-looking with very bristly-looking femora. 10/03/2010 Size: About 7mm-ish. Seemed like a big one.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: [ID] Spider under log Amaurobiidae. Looks like A.similis although would need a closer look at the palps/epigyne to be sure. Male left, female right. |

| | | Re: [ID] Spider under log Possibly one of the Agelenidae, a Coelotes species. They are commonly found under logs and as you're in the South it'll probably be Coelotes terrestris as opposed to C. atropos that I usually find in t'North.

| | | Re: [ID] Spider under log Thanks both - Coelotes terrestris looks perfect. I too thought Amaurobiidae, but in the flesh it seemed more dark red than brownish |

| | | Re: [ID] Spider under log They do have a passing resemblance to Amaurobius ferox, though the front area of the carapace has a more pronounced rise to it, and A. ferox would have a mess of bluish tangled web in it's vicinity.
